Every Christmas in the Nottingham office we host the annual decorate your desk competition which sees different departments fighting it out to be the winner! 

The first email goes out in October as preparations start early to impress the judging panel with your Christmassy desk designs. 

Yesterday was judging day which saw Santa's Sleigh and The North Pole sharing 1st place and Greta's Gang who came in second place.

Fundraising For Rainbows Hospice For Children And Young People

Congratulations to Andy who won the Rainbows gin in our prize draw this week!

We will be doing our usual collection for Rainbows instead of sending Christmas cards this year.

For the last nine years, many of us have decided to save the money that we would otherwise spend on sending Christmas cards to colleagues and contribute instead towards supporting the Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough. The company also supports this program with a corporate donation of £100 to start the fund rolling and each year, your generous donations have resulted in us being able to offer this incredible organisation, contributions of several hundred pounds. Last year’s final total was £450! Enough money to make a real difference.

Fundraising for the Hedgie Centre, Wormit!

Thank You to all SLS Staff, Suppliers and Friends who kindly donated to our recent fundraising initiative to help hedgehogs this winter. Together we raised £550 which will make a massive difference to the Hedgie Centre, Wormit. Our Regional Sales Manager for Scotland, Pete Davie helps 80-year-old Sandy Boyd rescue hedgehogs as the cold weather sets in. He currently looks after 52 hedgies which are not only time-consuming but expensive. Our winning donator received a watercolour print by one of our graphic designers.

Institute of Biomedical Science Congress - Exhibition Winners

At only our second time exhibiting at The Institute of Biomedical Science Congress this September we received the prestigious accolade of winning the best shell scheme stand.

Winning this award can be attributed to our engagement with visitors by having a hole-in-one competition which saw people queueing up to have a go.

Our new glove recycling initiative at Birmingham University

Over the past year, we have implemented a new glove recycling initiative at Birmingham University School of Metallurgy and Materials. We have been working closely with our supplier, Kimberly-Clark Professional™ on their RightCycle® scheme to turn 10 boxes (1000 gloves) a week into plastic pellets, creating new plastic products.

Work Experience Student

Last week our marketing department welcomed Isobel Hopkin, a year 10 student from a local secondary school to the Scientific Laboratory Supplies head office in Nottingham. Isobel wanted to gain some experience in a design environment where she could use her creativity in the workplace. During her 2 days here she created a product flyer using InDesign, edited photos in Photoshop and created her own social media post. This involved taking photos, editing them and producing a social media graphic which was published on our various channels last week. We really enjoyed having Isobel and wish her all the best for her GCSE's and future career.

ULT Freezer Racking Study with the University of Oxford and Green Light Laboratories

The data was collected over a two week period at the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford. The Eppendorf ULT freezer (F570h) tested was supplied for the study by us and the racking was supplied by Westbart.
