SLS and Eppendorf to supply ultra-low temperature freezers for UK COVID-19 vaccines

Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS) and leading international life sciences company Eppendorf have been chosen to provide ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers for the country’s supply of COVID-19 vaccines. SLS – the UK's largest independent supplier of chemicals, laboratory equipment and consumables – was awarded a contract by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to equip two central storage sites and 54 regional hubs with the vital laboratory equipment required for safe and secure storage of the newly developed vaccine.

Christmas Fundraising for Rainbows

We will be doing our usual fundraising for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People instead of sending Christmas cards this year.  

For the last ten years, many of us have decided to save the money that we would spend on sending Christmas cards to colleagues and instead make a donation to Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

The company supports this program with a corporate donation of £100 to start the fund rolling and each year, we have been able to offer this incredible organisation contributions of several hundred pounds.

Opening times and delivery information over the festive period

Orders: Our last van runs and carrier deliveries will be Christmas Eve and we will only be sending orders via carrier on the 29th, 30th and 31st Of December. We will only be despatching orders between the hours of 10am and 3pm on these dates. Van runs and carriers will continue to run as normal from January 2nd .  

Deliveries: Goods in booking slots will be taken up until the 20th December with only carrier/smaller deliveries taken on the 23rd and 24th of December. On the 29th, 30th and 31st we will be accepting deliveries between 8am and 2pm.  

Customer Service: Our Customer Service team will be available between 10am – 3pm on 29th, 30th and 31st December.

Wolflabs Fundraising with Indoor Everest Ascent

Our sister company Wolflabs has decided to carry out an “in-doors Everest ascent” during the week commencing 11/05. 

With an average staircase ascent of 2.4m, it would take 3,688 ascents to have done the equivalent of climbing Everest. The Wolflabs team will be taking on this challenge in their homes, all in aid of raising money for "The People's Pantry", Mind and Women's Aid. The Science Council is seeking its next President to succeed Professor Sir Keith Burnett FRS, who will step down in October 2020 after 4 years in the role.  

This is an exciting time to join us as our new President, as we continue to deliver our strategy in partnership with our members. We are looking for someone who has the gravitas and ability to influence at the highest level, acting as an ambassador for the Science Council to strengthen the reach and impact of the charity. The office of President is a critical role for the Science Council; we welcome applications from high calibre individuals who can passionately champion the value of the science profession, and with the time and energy to commit to the role.

As a result of the continually evolving situation regarding Coronavirus and after extensive consultation with the relevant authorities, it is with regret that we have made the decision to cancel the Scientific Laboratory Show & Conference 2020.
