Basic Fuchsin has been used in several biological tests including: Acid-fast staining with carbol-fuchsine Periodic Acid-Schiff method Feulgen technique for DNA staining ENDO culture medium for distinguishing between the bacteria Escherichia coli and Aerobacter aerogenes Leifson′s method for bacterial flagella staining.

General description
Basic fuchsin, a triphenylmethane dye is commonly a mixture of pararosaniline (C.I. 42500), rosaniline (C.I. 42510), magenta II and new fuchsine (CI 42520). Basic fuchsin is widely used in tissue-specific staining of biological and coloring several materials including orlon, cotton, leather, paper etc. It is also used to stain collagen, muscle and mitochondria.
