It differs from other benzodiazepines in that its molecules possess a thiophene ring instead of benzene. It has anticonvulsant, sedative, anxiolytic, amnesic, hypnotic and muscle relaxant properties. It′s mode of action is through benzodiazepine receptor. It is used to treat insomnia, moderate depression and social anxiety disorder, and has occasionally been associated with blepharospasm and skin lesions.
