General description
Recombinant, human superoxide dismutase expressed in E. coli as a homodimer consisting of 2 identical, 154-amino acid chains. Purified by proprietary chromatographic methods. Superoxide dismutase is an essential component of biological defense against the toxic effects of oxygen. It catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide radicals to molecular oxygen and H2O2 and plays a role in cellular aging due to its reduced activity in aging cells. Mutant forms of Cu/Zn SOD are associated with neurodegenerative disease.
